The Cincinnati Reds topped the St. Louis Cardinals last night, 6-2. The Reds raced out to a 3-0 lead with one in the second, third and fourth behind homers from Todd Frazier and Shin-Soo Choo. The Cardinals responded on a David Freese solo blast in the fifth, but in the home half the Reds came back with a Jay Bruce solo dinger. Todd Frazier would hit his second homer of the game in the seventh to help clinch the win. The Reds will host the LA Dodgers tonight. Mike Leake will take on Chris Capuano at 7.
Elsewhere in the MLB, the LA Angels topped Tampa Bay, 6-2. Arizona bested San Francisco, 4-2. Houston edged Oakland, 3-2. Baltimore ousted the Chicago White Sox, 3-1. Boston outlasted the New York Yankees, 9-8 in 10 innings and Kansas City clipped Seattle, 7-6 in 13 innings.
In the NFL Opener last night, Denver toppled the Baltimore Ravens, 49-27 behind Peyton Manning’s seven touchdown passes.
The Athens County Game of the week returns to Power 105 tonight as Trimble travels to Wahama in what many consider to be a TVC-Hocking title bout in week two. The White Falcons have never lost in the Hocking, but the Tomcats and quarterback Konner Standley are looking to knock off Wahama. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 7:15 and kick off at 7:30.
The Athens Bulldogs are back in action tonight as they host Watkins Memorial. The Bulldogs are coming off a big win over Gallia Academy and will look to pick up some more crucial playoff points in their home opener. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 7:15 and kick at 7:30.
Elsewhere in Athens County tonight, Alexander is at Oak Hill. Federal Hocking travels to Waterford and Nelsonville-York will visit Newark Catholic.
