The Cincinnati Reds were blanked by the Chicago Cubs last night, 2-0. The Cubs did their damage early, scoring once in the second on a Ryan Sweeney solo blast and then once in the third on a Luis Valbuena solo homer. The Redlegs offense was shut down by Travis Wood, who threw seven scoreless innings, surrendering just six hits with seven strikeouts. Cincinnati will now host the Cubs again tonight. Tony Cingrani will take the hill against Edwin Jackson. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:40 and first pitch at 7:10.
The Cleveland Indians topped the Kansas City Royals yesterday, 4-3. The Tribe raced out to a 3-0 lead, scoring on solo dingers from Asdrubal Cabrera and Yan Gomes. Kansas City scored once in the sixth on an Eric Hosmer RBI single, but the Indians answered on a Carlos Santana solo homer. In the eighth, Alex Gordon hit a two-run homer for Kansas City, but it would not be enough. The Indians battle Kansas City again tonight at 7.
Elsewhere in the MLB, San Francisco outlasted Colorado, 3-2 in 10 innings. The LA Dodgers blew past Arizona, 8-1. Houston ousted Seattle, 6-4. The Chicago White Sox toppled Detroit, 5-1. Pittsburgh blanked Texas, 1-0. Atlanta bested Miami, 5-2. Washington shutout the New York Mets, 9-0. Minnesota defeated the LA Angels, 6-3 and Baltimore topped the New York Yankees, 4-2.
In NFL action last night, Philadelphia outlasted Washington, 33-27 and Houston came back to beat San Diego, 31-28.
