The Cincinnati Reds blanked the Chicago Cubs last night, 6-0. The Reds took the lead early, scoring twice in the second on a pair of RBI groundouts. In the fourth, Devin Mesoraco pushed the lead out to three with a solo homer. Cincinnati would then put the game out of reach in the sixth on a Jack Hannahan three-run dinger. Redleg hurler Mike Leake was solid in 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up just four hits with six strikeouts. Cincinnati will have today off before heading to Milwaukee on Friday night at 8.
The Cleveland Indians fell to the Kansas City Royals yesterday, 6-2. The Royals came racing out of the gates, scoring three times in the first on a solo blast from Alex Gordon and RBI singles from Eric Hosmer and Lorenzo Cain. The Indians responded in the bottom half with a Michael Brantley RBI single to make it a one run ballgame, but the Royals would pull away. Kansas City put on one in the fifth, seventh and then one in the eighth to clinch the victory. The Indians will hit the road and take on the Chicago White Sox tonight at 8.
Elsewhere in the MLB, Houston handled Seattle, 6-1. Arizona bested the LA Dodgers, 4-1. St. Louis toppled Milwaukee, 5-1. Oakland dominated Minnesota, 18-3. Detroit blanked the Chicago White Sox, 1-0. Miami topped Atlanta, 5-2. Washington shutout the New York Mets, 3-0. The LA Angels edged Toronto, 5-4. Philadelphia ousted San Diego, 4-2. The New York Yankees clipped Baltimore, 5-4. Boston outlasted Tampa Bay, 7-3 in 10 innings. San Francisco snuck past Colorado, 4-3 and Pittsburgh bested Texas, 7-5.
