The Cleveland Indians ousted the Minnesota Twins last night, 6-5. The Tribe got on the board first in the fourth with three runs behind a Yan Gomes two-run blast. The Indians added to their lead with one in the sixth and one in the seventh on an RBI single from Michael Brantley and a Carlos Santana RBI double. However, the Twins fought back in the ninth, scoring four times to cut the lead behind a Josmil Pinto two-run homer. But Joe Smith would come into the ball game and slam the door to keep the Indians a game ahead of Texas in the Wild Card race. The Indians battle Minnesota again tonight at 8.
Elsewhere in the MLB, Kansas City clipped the Chicago White Sox, 3-2. Texas edged the LA Angels, 6-5. Milwaukee bested the New York Mets, 4-2. Atlanta toppled Philadelphia, 7-1. Baltimore ousted Toronto, 3-2. Tampa Bay blanked the New York Yankees, 4-0 and San Diego outlasted Arizona, 3-2 in 11 innings.
The Athens County Game of the Week returns to Power 105 tonight as Nelsonville-York hosts rival Logan. The Buckeyes have won two in a row and seek some valuable playoff points with a possible win over the Chieftans at home. However, Logan is looking for revenge for a blowout loss to the Buckeyes last season on their home field. It’s the 85th meeting of the two rivals and the game can be heard on Power 105 tonight with pre game at 7:15 and kickoff at 7:30.
The Athens Bulldogs hit the road and travel to Proctorville tonight to battle the Fairland Dragons. The state ranked Bulldogs have rolled through the first three weeks and will look to go perfect in non-conference play against a strong Fairland offensive attack. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 7:15 and kick at 7:30.
Elsewhere in Athens County, Federal Hocking welcomes Belpre. Alexander heads to River Valley and Trimble hosts Miller.
