The Tampa Bay Rays topped the Texas Rangers last night in an American League Wild Card tiebreaker game, 5-2. The Rays raced out to a three-run lead behind an Evan Longoria two-run homer in the third and never looked back. Tampa Bay got solid pitching from David Price, who threw a complete game, giving up two runs on seven hits. The Rays will battle Cleveland on Wednesday in the AL Wild Card Game.
The OHSAA released the mid-season AP State football poll yesterday. In Division III, Athens fell to #5 with a pair of first place votes. The undefeated Bulldogs return to action on Friday to start TVC-Ohio play at Wellston. The game can be heard on 970 WATH. Also, in Division VII, Trimble climbed to #4 in the state with one first place vote. The Tomcats battle Waterford this week. The Athens County Game of the Week returns to Power 105 on Friday night as Alexander welcomes Vinton County. Pre game starts at 7:15 with kickoff at 7:30.
On Monday Night football last night, New Orleans stayed undefeated with a dominating win over Miami, 38-17. Drew Brees threw for over 400 yards and four touchdowns in the ballgame.
The Cleveland Browns waived running back Montario Hardesty yesterday as well as wide out Josh Cooper. Hardesty was a second-round pick in 2010, but was placed on injured reserve in August after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery. In three seasons Hardesty appeared in 23 games for Cleveland. The Browns also claimed running back and kick returner Fozzy Whitaker on waivers from San Diego.
