The Cincinnati Bengals handed the New England Patriots their first loss of the season yesterday, 13-6. The Bengals were on the board late in the first with a 39-yard Mike Nugent field goal. The Patriots answered late in the first on a Stephen Gostowski field goal to tie it. In the third, Cincinnati jumped back on top with 50-yard field goal from Nugent and then early in the fourth BenJarvus Green-Ellis came through with a one-yard touchdown run to give Cincinnati a ten-point lead. New England would add another field goal, but the Cincinnati defense was suffocating, holding the Patriots to just 248 yards on the day. The Bengals are tied in first place in the AFC North with Cleveland and Baltimore. Cincinnati will now hit the road to take on Buffalo on Sunday. Elsewhere in the NFL, San Francisco dominated Houston, 34-3. Denver outlasted Dallas, 51-48. Arizona toppled Carolina, 22-6. Philadelphia bested the New York Giants, 36-21. Baltimore edged Miami, 26-23. St. Louis handled Jacksonville, 34-20. Indianapolis topped Seattle, 34-28. Kansas City defeated Tennessee, 26-17. Green Bay blew past Detroit, 22-9 and New Orleans ousted Chicago, 26-18.
In other NFL news yesterday, the Minnesota Vikings signed former Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman to a one-year, $3 million deal.
In MLB playoff action yesterday, Pittsburgh took a 2-1 series lead over St. Louis with a 5-3 win and the LA Dodgers took a 2-1 series lead over Atlanta with a dominating 13-6 win.
In NHL action last night, Vancouver edged Calgary, 5-4 in overtime. Anaheim clipped Winnipeg, 3-2 and Carolina ousted Philadelphia, 2-1. The Columbus Blue Jackets return to your airwaves on Thursday night as they head to Buffalo to battle the Sabres.
