Cincinnati Bengals wide out Andrew Hawkins took part in practice for the first time since injuring his ankle in August yesterday. He was placed on the injured reserve-designation to return list and can play as early as the October 31st game at Miami. Wide receiver Marvin Jones, linebacker Rey Maualuga and cornerback Terence Newman were all banged up on Sunday and did not practice yesterday. The Bengals take on the New York Jets on Sunday. Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski announced yesterday that Jason Campbell will start for the Browns on Sunday in Kansas City. Campbell will replace Brandon Weeden, who has struggled as a starter this season, losing every game he started in and has ranked 32nd in the league in completion percentage. Campbell started six games for Oakland in 2011 and had the Raiders at 4-2 before injury ended his season.
The Boston Red Sox dominated the St. Louis Cardinals in game one of the World Series last night, 8-1. The Red Sox jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings as the offense exploded behind three RBIs from David Ortiz and three more from Mike Napoli. The Sox got stellar pitching from Jon Lester who threw 7.2 scoreless innings giving up just five hits with eight strikeouts. Game two is slated for tonight at 8.
The Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the Washington Wizards, 101-82 in preseason play last night. Kyrie Irving led the Cavs in scoring with 19 points and Tristan Thompson poured in 19. The Cavs will finish the preseason slate tonight in Charlotte at 7.
Elsewhere in the NBA preseason last night, the LA Clippers ousted Utah, 103-99. Sacramento clipped Golden State, 91-90. Chicago bested Oklahoma City, 104-95. Phoenix toppled Denver, 98-79. Dallas topped Atlanta, 98-88. Milwaukee defeated New York, 105-95. Minnesota blew past Philadelphia, 125-102 and Boston outlasted Brooklyn, 101-97.
The Athens Bulldogs came back from two sets down to defeat Sheridan, 3-2 in the OHSAA volleyball district semifinals last night. Lauren Tigner and Rachael Gilkey both had 14 kills to lead the Bulldogs to victory. Athens battles Unioto in the District Final at Southeastern HS on Saturday at 4. Meanwhile, Trimble fell in the District Semifinals, 3-0 to Portsmouth Notre Dame and Federal Hocking lost to Minford 3-0 in the District Semifinals.
