The OHSAA released the AP State poll for football after nine weeks yesterday. In Division III, Athens came in at #5 with a pair of first place votes. The Bulldogs wrap up the season with a rivalry matchup against the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes on Friday with a perfect season on the line. Meanwhile, in Division VII, Trimble remained at #4 with one first place vote after blowing past Southern over the weekend. The Tomcats wrap up their regular season this week at Federal Hocking.
The Cincinnati Bengals learned yesterday that linebacker Rey Maualuga sprained his MCL on Sunday and is expected to miss three to four weeks with injury. Bengals defensive back Taylor Mays will also be out for Thursday night’s game. The 26-year old linebacker Maualuga is the Bengals’ second-leading tackler this season with 51. It was the second time in as many weeks that he left a game as he suffered a hamstring injury in the Bengals win over Detroit. Cincinnati returns to action on Thursday as they head to Miami. Ohio Bobcats kicker and Albany native Josiah Yazdani was named MAC East Special Teams Player of the week yesterday. Yazdani drilled a pair of field goals against Miami on Saturday remaining a perfect 6-for-6 this season. He was also 4-of-4 on extra points on the afternoon. He is the fifth Bobcat honored by the MAC this year. Ohio hits the road next to take on the Buffalo Bulls next Tuesday. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 6:30 with the Bobcat Insider and the kick at 8.
The Boston Red Sox topped the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-1 to take a 3-2 series lead in the World Series last night. David Ortiz and David Ross both had RBI doubles to lead the way for Boston. Game six is set for Wednesday night at 8 in Boston.
On Monday Night Football last night, Seattle edged St. Louis, 14-9.
In NHL action last night, Chicago toppled Minnesota, 5-1. Dallas edged Buffalo, 4-3. Pittsburgh topped Carolina, 3-1. Montreal blanked the New York Rangers, 2-0 and Vancouver ousted Washington, 3-2.
