The Athens Bulldogs second-straight run to the regional finals came to a stop last night at the hands of the Marion Franklin Red Devils, 38-7. The Bulldogs hung in during the first half, but trailed 12-0 after failing to convert on four plays from the Marion Franklin four-yard line just before the half. Athens had 105 yards in penalties in the first half, hampering any momentum the Bulldogs tried to gain. In the second half, Marion Franklin began to pull away and the only Athens touchdown came late in the game on a Joey Burrow to Adam Luerhman 19-yard touchdown pass. Athens finishes the season 12-1, but the Bulldogs will return 19 starters into next season.
Athens was held to a season low 391 yards on the evening and Burrow was 26 of 45 for 360 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
