The Cleveland Browns were toppled by the Pittsburgh Steelers yesterday, 27-11. The Steelers and Browns traded field goals in the first quarter, but Pittsburgh went into the locker room at half with a 10-point lead behind a touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers began to pull away in the third on another Roethlisberger touchdown. Brandon Weeden came into the game to take over for injured Jason Campbell and threw pick six to seal the game. Cleveland will now host Jacksonville on Sunday at 1.
Elsewhere in the NFL, New England edged Denver, 34-31 in overtime. Dallas clipped the New York Giants, 24-21. Arizona blew past Indianapolis, 40-11. Tennessee topped Oakland, 23-19. Jacksonville bested Houston, 13-6. Baltimore handled the New York Jets, 19-3. Carolina ousted Miami, 20-16. St. Louis dominated Chicago, 42-21. San Diego outlasted Kansas City, 41-38. Minnesota tied Green Bay, 26-26 in overtime and Tampa Bay snuck past Detroit, 24-21.
Ohio volleyball claimed the MAC Tournament Championship yesterday, 3-0 over Eastern Michigan. The Bobcats dominated from the start, led by Liis Kullerkann with 15 kills on the afternoon. Meredith Ashy was named MAC Tournament MVP and Ohio claimed their eighth MAC tournament title.
The Trimble Tomcats learned that their state semifinal matchup against Berlin Center Western Reserve will be played at St. Clairsville High School on Saturday night. The Tomcats and Blue Devils can be heard on Power 105 on Saturday with pre game at 6:45 and kick at 7.
In NBA action last night, the LA Lakers blasted Sacramento, 100-86. Oklahoma City toppled Utah, 95-73. Phoenix bested Orlando, 104-96. The LA Clippers dominated Chicago, 121-82 and Detroit defeated Brooklyn, 109-97.
In NCAA top 25 play yesterday, #24 UNC upset #3 Louisville, 93-84. #6 Duke outlasted Vermont, 91-90. Georgetown knocked off #10 VCU, 84-80. Charlotte topped #14 Michigan, 63-61. #17 Oregon toppled San Francisco, 100-82. #19 New Mexico blasted Davidson, 79-58 and #22 UCLA blew past Chattanooga, 106-65.
