Morning Sports – 11/26/13

The Columbus Blue Jackets blasted the Toronto Maple Leafs, 6-0 last night. Cam Atkinson and RJ Umberger got the scoring started in the first and Jack Skille and Ryan Murray added to the lead with goals in the second. Columbus would put the game out of reach in the final period with a pair of goals from Ryan Johansen. The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday night as they host the Nashville Predators. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:45 and drop of the puck at 7.

Elsewhere in the NHL, Nashville topped Phoenix, 4-2. St. Louis blanked Minnesota, 3-0. Florida ousted Philadelphia, 3-1. Tampa Bay blanked the New York Rangers, 5-0. Winnipeg blew past New Jersey, 3-1. Chicago dominated Edmonton, 5-1 and Boston clipped Pittsburgh, 4-3 in overtime.

In area high school girls basketball action last night, Athens bested South Point, 62-44. Wellston edged Adena, 43-41. River Valley topped Federal Hocking, 55-48 and Morgan toppled Trimble, 64-30.

On Monday Night football last night, San Francisco blew out Washington, 27-6.

In NBA play yesterday, Portland toppled New York, 102-91. Utah outlasted Chicago, 89-83 in overtime. Sacramento dominated New Orleans, 112-93. Denver blew past Dallas, 110-96. Houston ousted Memphis, 93-86. Miami handled Phoenix, 107-92. Detroit defeated Milwaukee, 113-94. Indianapolis bested Minnesota, 98-84 and Boston topped Charlotte, 96-86.

The seventh-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes ousted Wyoming last night, 65-50. The Bucks clung to a four-point lead at the intermission, before pulling away in the second half behind 20 points and eight rebounds from Lenzelle Smith Jr. Ohio State will now host North Florida on Friday night at 5.

In NCAA basketball top 25 action last night, #3 Kentucky snuck past Cleveland State, 68-61. #5 Oklahoma State toppled South Florida, 93-67. #8 Syracuse ousted Minnesota, 75-67. #12 Wichita State handled Depaul, 90-72. #15 Florida blew past Jacksonville State, 86-60. #17 Iowa State dominated UMKC, 110-51. Chaminade upset #18 Baylor, 93-77. Arizona State knocked off #25 Marquette, 79-77.

The Ohio Bobcats return to action tonight as they host Mercer. Ohio has gotten off to a hot 4-1 start keyed by big man Maurice Ndour. The Cats and Mercer meet tonight on Power 105 at the Convo with the pre game coverage beginning at 6:30 and the tip at 7.
