Ohio center Maurice Ndour was named MAC East Player of the week for the second time this season yesterday. Ndour averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds this week in Ohio’s wins over Mercer and Evansville, teams ranked in the top-75 of the RPI. Ndour tallied 23 points last Tuesday in a win over Mercer with 11 rebounds. The native of Senegal has helped lead Ohio basketball to a 6-1 record to start the season. The Bobcats now hit the road on Saturday night at Oakland at 6.
Meanwhile, Ohio football claimed a MAC East Special teams player of the week award with kicker Josiah Yazdani. Yazdani has now won the award twice. The native of Albany was 3-for-3 on field goals against UMass on Friday, hitting from 30, 24 and 25 yards out. Yazdani has yet to miss a field goal this season.
On Monday Night football last night, Seattle dominated New Orleans, 34-7.
The Columbus Blue Jackets return to action tonight as they host the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Jackets are struggling offensively due to multiple injuries and will look to gain some momentum against the Lightning, who have lost their past four road games. Columbus has alternated wins and losses in their last eight outings. The game can be heard on 970 WATH tonight with pre game at 6:45 and drop of the puck at 7.
In NHL play last night, the LA Kings ousted St. Louis, 3-2. Minnesota blanked Philadelphia, 2-0. Montreal clipped New Jersey, 3-2 and Winnipeg handled the New York Rangers, 5-2.
In NBA action yesterday, Portland bested Indiana, 106-102. Utah defeated Houston, 109-103. San Antonio edged Atlanta, 102-100. New Orleans outlasted Chicago, 131-128 in triple overtime and Washington toppled Orlando, 98-80.
The Athens County basketball game of the week kicks off tonight as Alexander hosts River Valley. The young Spartans are led by first-year head coach Jim Kearns and are looking to get to 2-0 in their home opener. The game can be heard on Power 105 tonight with pre game at 7:15 and the tip at 7:30.
