Morning Sports – 12/10/13

The Columbus Blue Jackets outshot and outplayed the Pittsburgh Penguins last night, but fell on the road, 2-1. Pittsburgh got on the board first with an Evgeni Malkin goal in the second and added to the lead midway through the third on Sidney Crosby’s 16th goal of the season. The Jackets only tally came in the third with one minute left on a goal from Matt Calvert. Columbus will now return home to host the New Jersey Devils tonight at 7.

In other NHL action, Anaheim bested the New York Islanders 5-2. Vancouver blanked Carolina, 2-0 and Ottawa outlasted Philadelphia, 5-4 in a shootout.

Josh McCown accounted for five total touchdowns as Chicago blasted Dallas, 45-28 on Monday Night football last night.

In NBA play yesterday, Sacramento toppled Dallas, 112-97. Portland defeated Utah, 105-94. Memphis bested Orlando, 94-85. Denver edged Washington, 75-74. The LA Clippers ousted Philadelphia, 94-83 and Charlotte topped Golden State, 115-111.

Dominque Doseck scored 31 of her 37 points in the second half as Athens bested Vinton County, 64-56 in area girls high school hoops action last night. Elsewhere, Nelsonville-York toppled Meigs, 54-43. Alexander blew past Wellston, 56-39. South Gallia bested Federal Hocking, 50-34 and Southern defeated Trimble, 66-49.

The Athens County Game of the week returns to Power 105 tonight as Southern visits Federal Hocking. The defending TVC-Hocking champ Lancers are looking for a statement win to start conference play against a tough and tall Tornadoes squad. The game can be heard on Power 105 tonight with pre game at 7:15 and tip off at 7:30.

The Athens Bulldogs kick off their hoops season tonight as they host the New Lexington Panthers. The Bulldogs return their core from a team that made the regional finals a season ago. The game can be heard on 970 WATH tonight with pre game at 7:15 and tip at 7:30.
