A late goal from Ryan Johansen lifted the Columbus Blue Jackets over the New York Rangers last night, 4-2. The Jackets came storming out of the gates, scoring three times in the first on goals from Matt Calvert, Artem Anisimov and David Savard. The Rangers chipped away at the lead, cutting it to one midway through the third. However, Johansen came through with a goal off of a Feder Tyutin pass and the Jackets took the victory. Columbus will now host the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night at 7.
Elsewhere in the NHL, San Jose topped Minnesota, 3-1. Boston bested Edmonton, 4-2. Phoenix toppled the New York Islanders, 6-3. Calgary edged Carolina, 2-1 in overtime. Colorado clipped Winnipeg, 4-3 in a shootout. Nashville defeated Dallas, 3-1. St. Louis blew past Toronto, 6-3. Tampa Bay snuck past Detroit, 2-1 in a shootout and Ottawa ousted Buffalo, 2-1.
The San Diego Chargers limited the Denver Broncos to under 300 yards of total offense in an upset win on Thursday Night football last night, 27-20.
Dominique Doseck tallied 29 points and Olivia Harris poured in 13 as Athens remained undefeated with a 75-61 win over rival Nelsonville-York in area girls hoops last night. In other girls high school hoops yesterday, Vinton County ousted Alexander, 63-57. Belpre toppled Federal Hocking, 73-56. Eastern dominated Miller, 78-15 and Wellston bested Meigs, 56-33.
The Athens County Game of the week returns to Power 105 tonight as Vinton County visits Nelsonville-York in a TVC-Ohio clash. The Vikings have long been a power in the conference, having won three straight league titles. However, the Buckeyes and Josh Fayette are looking to make a statement early in the season. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 7:15 and tip at 7:30.
The Athens Bulldogs open TVC-Ohio play tonight as they welcome the Wellston Golden Rockets to McAfee Gymnasium. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 7:15 and tip at 7:30. Also, the Bulldogs will host fellow southeastern Ohio power Logan Elm tomorrow night. The game can be heard on Power 105 and 970 WATH.

In NBA play last night, Brooklyn knocked off the LA Clippers, 102-93 and Portland bested Houston, 111-104.
