Morning Sports – 12/17/13

Athens’ Dominque Doseck scored her 1,000th career point last night as the Lady Bulldogs topped Logan 64-52. In other area girls high school hoops, Alexander toppled River Valley, 55-41. Jackson blew past Meigs, 66-41 and Eastern dominated Belpre, 85-24.

The Columbus Blue Jackets fell to the Winnipeg Jets last night, 3-2. After two quiet periods, the Jets led 1-0. Winnipeg pushed their lead out to two early in the third but Columbus answered on an RJ Umberger goal. Just two minutes later, the Jets answered to push the lead back to two before Fedor Tyutin came back a minute later with another Blue Jacket goal. However, Columbus could muster no more offense and the Jackets fell. Columbus will now visit Philadelphia on Thursday night. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:45 and drop of the puck at 7.

Elsewhere in the NHL, Colorado blasted Dallas, 6-2. Ottawa edged St. Louis, 3-2 in overtime and Pittsburgh toppled Toronto, 3-1.

Justin Tucker drilled six field goals including a late 61-yarder to give the Baltimore Ravens an 18-16 win over the Detroit Lions on Monday Night football last night.

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving was named NBA Eastern Conference player of the week yesterday. The Cavs went 2-1 over the past week with Irving averaging 29 points per game with 6.3 assists. Irving did have 37 points against the Knicks a week ago. Cleveland hosts the Portland Trailblazers tonight at 7.

In NBA action last night, the LA Clippers blew past San Antonio, 115-92. Orlando clipped Chicago, 83-82. Washington snuck past New York, 102-101. Miami dominated Utah, 117-94. Brooklyn blasted Philadelphia, 130-94. Boston bested Minnesota, 101-97. Atlanta toppled the LA Lakers, 114-100 and Detroit topped Indiana, 101-96.

The Athens Bulldogs return to action tonight as they host country rival Alexander. The Bulldogs are off to a 1-0 start in conference play, but a young Spartans squad would love to pull the upset. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 7:15 and tip at 7:30.
