Morning Sports – 12/19/13

The Ohio Bobcats fell to the #22 UMass Minutemen last night, 83-71. UMass took control early and never looked back, leading by 11 at the intermission. The Minutemen shot 61 percent from the field and hit nine threes on the evening while holding the Bobcats to 41 percent shooting. Ohio was led by Maurice Ndour with 16 points and 6 rebounds and Nick Kellogg also hit double digits with 12 points. The Bobcats will now head to Richmond for a big mid-major matchup on Sunday. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 12:30 and the tip at 1.

#3 Ohio State bested Delaware last night, 76-64. The Buckeyes struggled early on, while the Blue Hens kept the game close, making it just an eight point Ohio State lead twice during the game. However, the Bucks would finish the first half with a 12-0 run to lead by 11 going into the break. In the second half, Ohio State held off every Delaware comeback led by LaQuinton Ross with 19 points and Lenzelle Smith Jr. with 14 points. Ohio State will now battle Notre Dame on Saturday in New York at 7:30.

In other NCAA top 25 action, #12 Baylor held off Northwestern State, 91-84 in overtime. Stanford upset #10 UConn, 53-51. Texas knocked off #14 UNC, 86-83 and #24 San Diego State toppled Southern Utah, 76-39.

In NBA play, Miami edged Indiana, 97-94. Utah bested Orlando, 86-82. Charlotte edged Toronto, 104-102 in overtime. Atlanta toppled Sacramento, 124-107. Detroit clipped Boston, 107-106. Washington ousted Brooklyn, 113-107. New York outlasted Milwaukee, 107-101 in double overtime. Minnesota topped Portland, 120-109. San Antonio defeated Phoenix, 108-101. Houston handled Chicago, 109-94 and the LA Clippers blew past New Orleans, 108-95.

The Columbus Blue Jackets hit the ice tonight as they travel to Philadelphia. The Flyers feature former Blue Jacket goalie Steve Mason, who will face his former team for the first time. Columbus’ injury woes still continue, as Marion Gaborik and James Wisniewski practiced on Wednesday but will not be able to play. The Jackets and Flyers can be heard on 970 WATH tonight with pre game at 6:45 and drop of the puck at 7.
