The Columbus Blue Jackets fell to the Colorado Avalanche last night, 4-3. The Jackets were on the board first just four minutes into the game on a Ryan Johansen goal, but the Avalanche answered minutes later. The Jackets jumped back on top off of a goal from Boone Jenner in the second, but two Colorado goals midway through the period gave the Avalanche the advantage. Colorado added to their lead eight minutes into the third, but the Jackets responded on a Nick Foligno goal, but a comeback was not in the cards. The Jackets will now head to Phoenix on Thursday night. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 8:45 and drop of the puck at 9.
The Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the Indiana Pacers yesterday afternoon, 91-76. The Cavs led by three at the break and by one after three periods, but Cleveland was shutdown in fourth, scoring just 10 points. The Cavs struggled from behind the arc, hitting on 1-12 from deep. Cleveland was led by Anderson Varejao with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The Cavs will now host Orlando on Thursday night at 7. In other Cavs news, Kyrie Irving is scheduled to have an MRI on an injured knee today. The knee was injured in the loss to Indiana as he was helped off the floor in the third period, but returned to play in the fourth.
In other NBA action, Golden State toppled Orlando, 94-81. Atlanta clipped Boston, 92-91. San Antonio handled Brooklyn, 113-92. Sacramento outlasted Houston, 110-106. Portland defeated Oklahoma City, 98-94 and Toronto ousted Chicago, 85-79.
The #3 Ohio State Buckeyes remained unbeaten with a 78-69 win over Purdue yesterday. The Buckeyes and Boilermakers played a close first half with Ohio State up by one. However, with 10 minutes left the Buckeyes would go on a 10-2 run to take control of the game. LaQuinton Ross led Ohio State with 25 points and 12 rebounds. The Buckeyes will continue Big Ten play on Saturday as they host Nebraska at noon.
In NCAA top 25 play yesterday, #2 Syracuse blew past Eastern Michigan, 70-48. #5 Michigan State toppled Penn State, 79-63. #7 Duke handled Elon, 86-48. #14 Louisville dominated UCF, 90-65. #19 North Carolina bested UNC-Wilmington, 84-51. #11 Villanova snuck past Butler, 76-73 in overtime. #13 Iowa State blasted Northern Illinois, 99-63 and #22 Iowa topped Nebraska, 67-57.
In NCAA football bowl action, Arizona dominated Boston College, 42-19 in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl. #17 UCLA toppled Virginia Tech, 42-12 in the Sun Bowl and Mississippi State rolled past Rice in the Liberty Bowl, 44-7.
