Ohio women’s basketball fell to Central Michigan yesterday, 80-63. The Lady Cats fought with the top team in the MAC close in the first half, trailing by eight at the intermission. But the Chippewas caught fire, pulling away and pushing the lead out to as many as 20 in the second half. For the Lady Cats, it was their fifth straight loss. Ohio was led by Kiyanna Black with 17 points and Destini Cooper with 15. The Lady Cats will now head to Buffalo on Thursday at noon.
In NCAA Top 25 action yesterday, Indiana knocked off #10 Michigan, 63-52. Virginia upset #18 Pitt, 48-45 and #13 Cincinnati bested South Florida, 50-45.
The Seattle Seahawks dominated the Denver Broncos in the 46th Super Bowl last night, 43-8. The Seahawks dominated from the first play, when an errant snap when over the head of Peyton Manning and into the endzone for a safety. The Seattle defense dominated, forcing four turnovers including an interception return for a touchdown that gave the Seahawks the 22-0 advantage at the half. The second half started with a bang when Percy Harvin took a kickoff back 87 yards for a touchdown. Seattle linebacker Malcolm Smith was named the MVP after returning the interception for a touchdown and also recovering a fumble.
The Athens Bulldogs hit the hardwood tonight for a special Monday night matchup against the Warren Warriors. The Dogs head to Vincent for a rematch of last seasons regional playoffs, where the Bulldogs fell to Warren in overtime. The game is crucial for both sides, as it could mean the top seed in the district tournament. The rivalry is renewed in Vincent as the Dogs and Warriors clash tonight on 970 WATH and 97.1 FM with pre game at 7:15 and tip off at 7:30.
In area girls action tonight, Alexander is at Crooksville. Nelsonville-York visits Chillicothe and Trimble is at South Gallia.
The lone NBA game of the day had Boston besting Orlando, 96-89.
In NHL play yesterday, Washington outlasted Detroit, 6-5 in overtime and Winnipeg ousted Montreal, 2-1.
