Morning Sports Report – 2/4/14

Ohio’s Maurice Ndour was named MAC East Player of the Week yesterday. It was the third time Ndour has earned the award this year. The Senegal native averaged 24 points and 11 rebounds this week as Ohio went 2-0. In the Bobcats overtime victory over Toledo on Saturday, Ndour poured in 28 points and pulled in 12 rebounds with 3 blocks. Ohio will now head to Western Michigan on Wednesday. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 6:30 and the tip at 7.

The Columbus Blue Jackets topped the Anaheim Ducks last night, 4-2. The Jackets got on the board first with a goal from Ryan Johansen in the first period. Then RJ Umberger came through with a power play goal in the second. In the third, Anaheim cut the lead to one, but Nick Foligno responded with back-to-back goals to help Columbus pull away. The Jackets will now head to Los Angeles on Thursday. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 10:15 and drop of the puck at 10:30.

The Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the Dallas Mavericks last night, 124-107. The Cavs trailed by seven at the half, but Dallas pulled away in the second half, shooting 55 percent from the field on the night as well as 46 percent from deep. Cleveland was led by Kyrie Irving with 27 points and eight assists. The Cavs will now host the LA Lakers on Wednesday at 7.

Elsewhere in the NBA, Sacramento toppled Chicago, 99-70. Toronto handled Utah, 94-79. Denver outlasted the LA Clippers, 116-115. Oklahoma City bested Memphis, 86-77. San Antonio topped New Orleans, 102-95. Milwaukee ousted New York, 101-98. Miami handled Detroit, 102-96. Brooklyn defeated Philadelphia, 108-102. Washington bested Portland, 100-90 and Indiana blew past Orlando, 98-79.

The Cleveland Browns made official the hiring of Kyle Shanahan as their offensive coordinator. The 34-year old held the same position with the Washington Redskins where he worked under his father. He was fired from the position this offseason.

The Athens County Game of the Week returns to Power 105 tonight as Trimble heads to Southern. The Tomcats fell to the Tornadoes last week and now this game becomes a must win with Trimble a game behind Southern in the conference standings. Southern sits atop the TVC-Hocking and Trimble is hoping to climb into a tie with a victory. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 7:15 and tip at 7:30.

In other area boys hoops tonight, Alexander is at Oak Hill. Nelsonville-York visits Wellston. Vinton County hosts Logan. Federal Hocking travels to Belpre and Wahama welcomes Miller.
