Morning Sports Report – 2/6/14

The Ohio Bobcats fell to the Western Michigan Broncos last night, 90-74. The Bobcats controlled the first half, leading by as many as nine, but went into the break down by one. The Cats jumped out to a 52-50 lead with 11 minutes left, but the Broncos went on a 13-2 run and took a lead they would not give up. Western Michigan shot 72 percent from the field in the second half including 24 free throws. Ohio was led by Maurice Ndour with 20 points and six rebounds. The Bobcats return to action on Saturday as they face Miami in the Battle of the Bricks. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 1 with the Bobcat Insider and the tip at 2.

In NCAA top 25 action last night, #4 Wichita State bested Indiana State, 65-58. #5 San Diego State ousted Boise State, 67-65. #10 Michigan dominated Nebraska, 79-50. #13 Saint Louis blew past St. Joes, 65-49. #14 Louisville handled Houston, 77-62. #20 Virginia defeated Boston College, 77-67. West Virginia upset #21 Oklahoma, 91-86 and #25 Pitt hung on to beat Miami, 59-55.

In area boys hoops last night, Nelsonville-York bested Eastern, 65-55.

The Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the Los Angeles Lakers last night, 119-108. The Lakers dominated the first half, scoring 70 points in the first half. The Cavs fought back against the banged up Lakers, who played with just five players available with five minutes remaining. However, Cleveland could not cut the gap enough and fell yet again. The Cavs were led by CJ Miles with 27 points. Cleveland will now head to Washington on Friday at 7.

Elsewhere in the NBA, Sacramento outlasted Toronto, 109-101. Denver bested Milwaukee, 110-100. Oklahoma City ousted Minnesota, 106-97. New Orleans topped Atlanta, 105-100. Dallas toppled Memphis, 110-96. Houston blew past Phoenix, 122-108. Portland clipped New York, 94-90. Orlando dominated Detroit, 112-98. San Antonio outlasted Washington, 125-118 in double overtime and Boston clipped Philadelphia, 114-108.

In NHL action last night, Pittsburgh dominated Buffalo, 5-1 and Chicago blanked Anaheim, 2-0.
