Morning Sports Report – 2/7/14

Ohio women’s basketball fell on the road yesterday at Buffalo, 55-43. The Bobcats defense was stifling in the first half, holding the Bulls to just 18 points behind Quiera Lampkins’ three blocks and three steals. However, in the second half, the Bulls caught fire and pulled out to a five-point advantage that Ohio could just not cut into. Ohio shot just 25 percent from the field and 15 percent from deep and were led by Lampkins with 12 as well as Kiyanna Black with 12 points. The Lady Cats return to action on Sunday as they host Eastern Michigan at 2.

In NCAA top 25 action last night, #2 Arizona edged Oregon, 67-65. #7 Cincinnati bested #22 UConn, 63-58 and #9 Michigan State blew past Penn State, 82-67.

The Columbus Blue Jackets fell to the LA Kings last night in overtime, 2-1. The Jackets jumped on the board just two minutes into the game when Jack Johnson tallied a power play goal. It was a defensive battle until the third when the Kings knotted up the game and sent it to an extra period. Just a couple minutes into the overtime, Robyn Regehr gave the Kings the win. Columbus will now return to action tonight as they travel to San Jose. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 10:15 and drop of the puck at 10:30.

The Athens County Game of the Week returns to Power 105 tonight as Trimble travels to Belpre. The Tomcats ousted the Golden Eagles in overtime in the first matchup earlier this season. However, the young Golden Eagles have upset on their mind against a Trimble team that sits a game behind Southern in the conference standings. The Tomcats and Golden Eagles matchup tonight on Power 105 with pre game at 7:15 and the tip at 7:30.

The Athens Bulldogs return to the hardwood tonight as they travel to the rival Nelsonville-York Buckeyes. The Bulldogs have a perfect conference record and will put that on the line against the Bucks and Josh Fayette. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 7:15 and tip at 7:30.

In other area boys hoops tonight, Alexander is at Wellston. Vinton County visits Meigs. Miller welcomes Federal Hocking and South Gallia hosts Southern. In boys hoops action last night, Federal Hocking ousted Belpre, 57-52.

In area girls high school hoops, Athens stayed unbeaten with a 66-33 win over Alexander and Eastern toppled Waterford, 75-44.
