Ohio women’s basketball fell to the Bowling Green Falcons yesterday, 63-39. The Lady Cats struggled from the start, scoring just 16 points in the first half as Ohio trailed by 12. BG raced out to a 25-point advantage early in the second half and never looked back as the Cats shooting woes continued. Ohio shot just 22 percent on the game and were led by Yamonie Jenkins with 12 points. The Lady Cats return to action on Wednesday night as they host Kent State at 7.
The Ohio State Buckeyes fell to Indiana yesterday, 72-64. The Buckeyes held a 20-12 lead early on, but Indiana went on a 16-0 run and the Hoosiers never looked back. The Buckeyes did not hit a singe trey all afternoon and scored one field goal outside of the paint. Ohio State was led by LaQuinton Ross and Lenzelle Smith Jr., both finishing with 19 points. The Buckeyes will now finish the regular season at home on Sunday against Michigan State at 4:30.
In NCAA top 25 action yesterday, #3 Arizona toppled Stanford, 79-66. #8 Villanova handled Marquette, 73-56. #14 Wisconsin bested Penn State, 71-66. #20 Iowa ousted Purdue, 83-76 and #25 New Mexico blew past Nevada, 72-58.
The Cincinnati Reds blew past the San Diego Padres, 15-4 yesterday in spring training action. Brandon Phillips had a two-RBI triple in the game and Jay Bruce went two-for-two with a triple. Cincinnati hosts Seattle today at 3.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Indians bested Seattle, 6-3 in spring training play. The Indians were led by top prospect Francisco Lindor who drilled a three-run homer. Cleveland takes on the Texas Rangers today at 3.
In NBA play last night, Phoenix outlasted Atlanta, 129-120. San Antonio topped Dallas, 112-106. Oklahoma City toppled Charlotte, 116-99. Orlando bested Philadelphia, 92-81. Indiana edged Utah, 94-91. Toronto defeated Golden State, 104-98 and Chicago dominated New York, 109-90.
The Columbus Blue Jackets return to the ice tonight as they head north to battle the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs have won eight straight at home and the Jackets are heading to a stretch run looking to gain ground on Toronto in the standings. The Jackets and Maple Leafs battle tonight on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:45 and drop of the puck at 7.
