The Ohio Bobcats toppled Bowling Green on the road last night, 72-61. The Bobcats controlled most of the game and jumped out to a 12-point advantage at the break behind a 17-6 run to finish the first half. The Falcons cut the Ohio lead to seven early in the second half, but the Cats responded with a 13-3 run and never looked back. Ohio played without star forward Maurice Ndour and Nick Kellogg led the way with 25 points. The Bobcats will head to Miami to wrap up the regular season on Saturday. In other MAC play, Akron topped Buffalo, 83-71. Toledo edged Central Michigan, 73-69. Eastern Michigan blew past Ball State, 72-58. Western Michigan ousted Northern Illinois, 61-56 and Miami bested Kent State, 73-61.
In NCAA Top 25 action, #1 Florida blasted South Carolina, 72-46. Georgia Tech upset #7 Syracuse, 67-62. #12 Michigan blew past Illinois, 84-53. Georgetown knocked off #13 Creighton, 75-63. Baylor topped #16 Iowa State, 74-61 and #25 Kentucky bested Alabama, 55-48.
The Trimble Tomcats had their season end last night on a last second-shot by Peebles in the district semifinals, 49-47. The Tomcats led most of the first half and led the top-seeded Indians until the fourth. Peebles jumped on top late by as many as six, but Trimble came back to tie the game up. With 40 seconds left, the Tomcats had the ball, but turned it over and Beau Justice of Peebles drained a jumper at the buzzer to win. Wyatt Bragg led Trimble with 12 points.
The Athens Lady Bulldogs fell to West Holmes in the regional semifinals last night, 47-40. The Lady Dogs got stuck in a defensive battle early, but the Knights defense was suffocating, holding Athens to just 9 first half points. Athens trailed by as many as 20, but came storming back late in the game, cutting the lead to seven. However, the early run by West Holmes was too much to overcome. Hannah Debruin keyed the Bulldogs with 15 points.
The Columbus Blue Jackets bested the Dallas Stars last night, 4-2. Columbus raced out to an early lead with three unanswered goals in the first period from Boone Jenner, RJ Umberger and Artem Anisimov. In the third, Dallas cut the lead to one with a pair of quick goals, but Artem Anisimov grabbed his second goal late to put it out of reach. The Jackets will now visit Chicago on Thursday. The Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the San Antonio Spurs last night, 122-101. The Cavs controlled the first quarter, leading by ten, but it was all San Antonio from then on. The Spurs outscored Cleveland by 20 in the second period and ran away with the game, scoring 109 points in the final three quarters. Kyrie Irving led the Cavs with 24 points and six assists. Cleveland will now visit Charlotte on Friday night at 7.
In other NBA play, New Orleans outlasted the LA Lakers, 132-125. The LA Clippers bested Phoenix, 104-96. Oklahoma City dominated Philadelphia, 125-92. Houston edged Miami, 106-103 and Golden State clipped Indiana, 98-96.
