Morning Sports Report – 6/5/2014

Michael Morse and Juan Perez homered with two outs in the sixth inning on last night, rallying the San Francisco Giants to a 3-2 victory that ended the Cincinnati Reds’ longest winning streak of the season at four games. San Francisco won for the 10th time in 13 games, improving the best record in the majors to 38-21. Morse hit a solo shot and Perez had a two-run homer off left-hander Tony Cingrani, who has lost all of his four starts since returning from shoulder tendinitis. Billy Hamilton had three singles off Vogelsong, matching his career high. It was his sixth three-hit game of the season.

Madison Bumgarner faces Mike Leake in the final game of the series today. Bumgarner is 5-0 in his last six starts, matching the longest winning streak of his career. Leake is 4-0 with a 0.92 ERA in his last four starts against the Giants. Today’s game can be heard live on 970WATH and 97.1FM with pre game scheduled for 12:05 and the first pitch at 12:35.

The Southern Ohio Copperheads open the 2014 season tonight – at Bob Wren Stadium – and will host the Hamilton Joes at 7:30 p.m. The Snakes begin their 13th season as a franchise, in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, and are currently riding a five year run that is the best in team history. Southern Ohio has posted five straight winning seasons, advanced to the championship rounds of the GLSCL tournament twice, and last year led the league from the first day of the regular season until the last. If you can make it out to Bob Wren Stadium, tonight’s game versus the Joes will be aired live on Power 105 with pre game scheduled for 7:15.

The Athens American Legion Post 21 baseball team will be playing their home opener tonight, after Wednesday’s game was postponed due to rain. The Gunners will host Waverly at Rannow Field on The Plains at 6PM.

Tony Parker plans to play in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said Tuesday that he expected his star point guard to be ready for tonight’s opener against the Miami Heat. Parker aggravated his left ankle injury Saturday, missing the second half of San Antonio’s series-clinching victory over Oklahoma City in the Western Conference finals.

On your radio dial tonight at 6:06, it’s the Sports Fan presented by J&K Contracting on 970WATH and 97.1FM.
