A number of Washington Nationals are enjoying success at the plate, while the Cincinnati Reds are searching for answers with the club on the brink of its longest losing streak in five years. The Nationals look to stay hot tonight when they visit Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, where the Reds’ Alfredo Simon looks for his major league-leading 13th victory. Cincinnati is winless since the all-star break and hasn’t lost seven in a row since an eight-game slide in August of 2009. Tonight’s game versus the Nationals can be heard live on 970WATH and 97.1FM with pre game set for 6:40 and the first pitch at 7:10.
The Southern Ohio Copperheads are back in action tonight as they play host to the Lake Erie Monarchs at Bob Wren Stadium. The Snakes improved to 11-1 in their last 12 games after defeating the Cincinnati Steam last night. Jake Lowery tossed seven strong innings to pick up his 2nd win of the year and Harrison Scanlon went deep for the Copperheads. Tonight’s game versus the Monarchs can be heard live on Power 105 with pregame set for 7:15 and the first pitch at 7:30.
First year Browns Coach Mike Pettine says he’s not worried about rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel’s off-field behavior carrying into the football season. Manziel has made headlines with his partying during the offseason, and a recent photo and video of him brought more scrutiny. Manziel begins training camp behind Brian Hoyer on Cleveland’s depth chart. The Browns selected Manziel, one of college football’s most popular players, in the first round of the NFL draft. Pettine, though, said the team will not be influenced by “external pressure” to name its starting quarterback.
The Cavaliers have signed No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins, a contract that prevents him from being traded for 30 days. Wiggins has been linked to a possible blockbuster trade with Minnesota for All-Star forward Kevin Love. The Cavs had been reluctant to include Wiggins in a package for Love, but the team has softened its stance and may be willing to part with the former Kansas standout. Cleveland is interested in bringing in Love to form a “Big 3″ with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. That trio would make the Cavs an overwhelming favorite in the Eastern Conference.
On your radio dial tonight at 6:06, it’s the Sports Fan presented by J&K Contracting on 970WATH and 97.1FM.
