Travis Wood pitched six innings of two-hit ball against his former team for his first win in two months, leading the Chicago Cubs to a 3-0 victory over Johnny Cueto and the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night. Arismendy Alcantara hit a two-run shot and Anthony Rizzo connected for his 30th homer for the Cubs, who have won four in a row for the first time since June 30-July 4. Cincinnati was shut out for the 12th time this season. Cueto struck out eight in 6 1-3 innings in his second straight loss after winning seven consecutive decisions. Cincinnati will look to even the series tonight versus Chicago and will send Matt Latos the mound. Alfredo Simon pitched seven strong innings to earn his first win in eight starts since the All-Star break and Todd Frazier homered as the Cincinnati Reds held on for a 5-3 win over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. Simon, who was 0-5 since pitching in the All-Star Game, opened with six shutout innings before yielding a run in the seventh. He allowed five hits with one walk and six strikeouts over seven innings. Manny Parra and Jumbo Diaz pitched the eighth. Logan Ondrusek allowed Evan Gattis’s 20th homer leading off the ninth and Jonathan Broxton gave up Jason Heyward’s RBI single before coaxing Justin Upton into grounding into a base-loaded forceout for his seventh save for the Reds, who salvaged a split of the four-game series after dropping the first two games. Justin Upton extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a bases-loaded single during Atlanta’s decisive third inning, and the Braves extended their offensive resurgence with an 8-0 victory over the fading Cincinnati Reds on Thursday night. Atlanta put it away early, sending 11 batters to the plate in the third for five runs. Jason Heyward got it started with a single off David Holmberg and drew a bases-loaded walk that finished the rally.  Cincinnati and Atlanta will square off again tonight inside Great American Ballpark. Lance Lynn beat Cincinnati for the third straight time, Jhonny Peralta hit a bases-clearing double and the St. Louis Cardinals topped the Reds 7-3 last night to complete a three-game sweep. Reds starter Johnny Cueto was off-kilter from the get-go and missed a chance to become the majors’ first 16-game winner. He allowed five runs in five-plus innings. The Cardinals have won eight of nine and swept the Reds at home for the first time since 2008. Cincinnati has lost 10 of 12, with Cueto getting the two wins. Cincinnati will look to end its current losing streak when they welcome Atlanta to Great American Ballpark for a 4-game series. Jon Jay was hit by a pitch from J.J. Hoover with the base-loaded in the ninth inning, lifting the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night. Matt Holliday drew a leadoff walk to start the winning rally. He advanced to third on Matt Adams’ single. After Peter Bourjos ran for Holliday, Jhonny Peralta walked to load the bases. Hoover then plunked Jay to force in Bourjos with the winning run. Pat Neshek pitched one inning of scoreless relief as the Cardinals won for the fifth time in six games and remained 2 1/2 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central. The Reds have lost four in a row. Jhonny Peralta’s 10th-inning single, his third hit of the game, drove in the winning run to give the St. Louis Cardinals a 6-5 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night.n Jay Bruce homered, doubled and knocked in four runs for the Reds, giving him nine RBIs in four games. Brandon Phillips returned from left thumb surgery wearing a brace and was 0 for 4 with a walk. Logan Ondrusek entered with one out in the 10th and gave up consecutive singles to Matt Holliday, Matt Adams and Peralta. Ondrusek was activated from the disabled list earlier in the day. Peralta’s RBI single in the first was just his second in 32 at-bats against the Reds this season. He also doubled and scored the tying run on A.J. Pierzynski’s hit off Jumbo Diaz in the eighth. Drew Stubbs capped Colorado’s five-run ninth inning with a three-run homer, sending the Rockies to a 10-9 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. The Reds carried a 9-5 lead into the ninth, but All-Star closer Aroldis Chapman walked four straight batters before he was replaced by J.J. Hoover. Pinch-hitter Wilson Rosario then hit a sacrifice fly to trim Cincinnati’s lead to two. After Charlie Blackmon flied out, Stubbs drove a 1-0 pitch from Hoover into the seats in left for his 12th homer. Jay Bruce went 3-for-5 at the plate for Cincinnati with 3 RBI. The Reds will be back in action tonight as they begin a 3-game set with the St. Louis Cardinals. Charlie Culberson hit his first homer in more than a month and Jorge De La Rosa pitched seven effective innings to lift the Colorado Rockies over the Cincinnati Reds 7-3 last night. De La Rosa allowed three runs and five hits and improved to 8-2 at Coors Field this season. Reds All-Star Alfredo Simon is winless in six starts since the break. He allowed seven runs — five earned — and a season-high 10 hits in five innings. Ryan Ludwick went 3-for-4 at the plate with 1 homerun and 2 RBI.
